Gasland -- UK Premiere
The Co-operative presents GASLAND out in UK cinemas on 17 January 2011. For details of screenings see http://gaslandmovie.co.uk/screenings.php
Gasland is going a long way in spreading public awareness about gas drilling and the risks it poses on human and environmental health. Response to the film has been overwhelmingly positive. The Oil and Gas Industry's response: not so enthusiastic.
"The largest domestic natural gas drilling boom in history has swept across the United States. The drilling technology of "fracking" or hydraulic fracturing has unlocked a "Saudi Arabia of natural gas" just beneath us. But is fracking safe? When filmmaker Josh Fox is asked to lease his land for drilling, he embarks on a cross-country odyssey uncovering a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. A recently drilled nearby Pennsylvania town reports that residents are able to light their drinking water on fire. This is just one of the many absurd and astonishing revelations of a new country called Gasland.

The Co-operative presents Gasland, as part of its Toxic Fuels campaign, which aims to highlight the global trend of extracting oil and gas from unconventional sources, such as tar sands and gas shales. Such exploitation threatens global efforts to avoid dangerous levels of climate change and risks local ecological disaster -- http://www.co-operative.coop/toxicfuels
