'BECCONSALL' DRILL SITE PUZZLE

Amongst all the concerns raised by the recent earthquakes and the suggestion that they may be linked to the gas shale 'Fracking' process, Hesketh Bank residents are finding some amusement in Cuadrilla's insistence that their gas drilling site is in Becconsall. The drill site is not in Becconsall; it is not even in Hesketh Bank but off Marsh Road in Banks.

The sign at the site entrance on Marsh Road has caused further distraction with the incorrect spelling of Cuadrilla.

A resident quipped "For a Company that is trying to reassure us that the controversial fracking process is safe in their hands, it would be much more encouraging if they could read a map and spell their own name correctly".

On a more serious note, local farmers have expressed worries about the impact the fracking may have on their borehole water supplies and local environmentalists are pressing for disclosure on the 'rock dissolving' chemicals used in the process. (We have asked Cuadrilla about these two specific points but they have not yet responded).

Questions are also being raised about how the already poor water pressure in the area may be put under severe pressure as significant amounts of water are required to extract shale gas.

Added to the issues arising from the two earthquakes in the vicinity of Cuadrilla's Fylde operation, the 'Information Day' at All Saints Church Hall next week may prove to be quite an event.
