Fracking ‘pointless’ after green energy U-turn


A leading academic who advised SNP ministers on fracking has ditched his support for the technology, saying it has been “fatally undermined” by the UK government’s U-turn on green energy.
Paul Younger’s comments, reported by The Ferret investigative website, have been described by opponents of undersea coal gasification as a major blow to the industry, which is attempting to get off the ground in Scotland.

Professor Younger, who holds the Rankine Chair of Engineering at the University of Glasgow, has been a vociferous critic of the Scottish government's moratorium on fracking. He had been a member of their expert panel
