Thank you for attending this inaugural session of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Shale Gas Regulation and Planning. Just to explain from the outset, this group is not here to decide or to debate whether we should or shouldn’t push ahead with shale gas exploration – that decision was taken in the House in January 2015 as part of the Infrastructure Act and was passed by a majority of 250 votes. What this is about is looking at the regulation of shale gas exploration and the planning aspects of it to make sure both those elements are fit for purpose and if this goes ahead – also I feel this forum could be a very vehicle for monitoring the outcomes of any shale gas exploration that goes ahead.
