No joke - A small earthquake centred on/around Poulton-Le-Fylde

Less than three days after fracking began at Cuadrilla's Preese Hall site (A), BGS detected a 2.2 earthquake (B), centred at/on/around Poulton Le Fylde, less than three miles as the crow flies from the Cuadrilla's Singleton well site on Grange Road (FY6 8LP):

The Guardian reports that the earthquake toppled temporary traffic lights, cracked a railway bridge, and woke residents.

BBC News reported that:
There has been a small earthquake on the Lancashire coast, the British Geological Survey (BGS) has confirmed.

A small earth tremor was felt in the Blackpool area at about 0330 BST, they said.

Lancashire Police said calls had been received from several people saying their property was shaking.

A BGS spokesman said that the tremor, which was thought to centre on Poulton-le-Fylde, measured 2.2 on the Richter scale.

No damage or injuries have been reported.

A police spokesman said that they confirmed the reports when the force's control room on Bonny Street, Blackpool, began to shake.

  1. I sent a text to BBC Radio Lancashire this morning highlighting how close the epicentre and the fracking site were. It wasn't read out; well half of it was, just not the bit about fracking...
